About the position
Music Specialists at Khan Lab School support students in their learning of music and plan project-based learning experiences that engage students in real-world problem solving and research. Classes consist of guided support, planned breakout sessions based on students’ gaps and interests, and interdisciplinary activities.
Specific duties and responsibilities
Teach one section of Middle School Music (two hours per week), one section of Western Music (three hours per week) to high school students, and one section of Music Production (three hours per week) to high school students.
Implement differentiated and developmentally appropriate instructional activities in music (vocal, instrumental, play/performance) that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
Lead an Advisory of approximately 8-10 students that meets two times per week from 8:25 to 8:55 am. Work with students on social emotional and executive functioning skills and build authentic relationships with students.
Complete duties as assigned by the upper school director including, but not limited to, lunch, goal time, car drop-off/pick-up, mid-morning break, and front desk.
Attend faculty meetings and professional development on Fridays from 1:00 to 2:30 pm and 3:00 to 4:00 pm, respectively.
Create real-world projects that are relevant to students and apply the knowledge they’ve learned through asynchronous curriculum and in-class activities.
Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, parents, peers, and community.
Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs.
Use assessment data effectively to inform and guide learning and to provide ongoing feedback to students and complete progress reports.
Incorporate DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) best practices into teaching and community interactions.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis about student progress.
Invest in the life of the school by participating in professional development, team meetings, school events, and any and all aspects that support student growth.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
At least one year of prior high school or college teaching experience is required.
Able to frequently lift or pull desks and chairs as part of daily organizational tasks.
Willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
Consistently practices safe work habits with all school equipment.
